City of the Weak’s “Stef”

Musuk had an amazing opportunity to catch up with Stef from “City of the Weak” Be sure to check out their links at the end of the page!

1 – City of the Weak, you released you debut EP “Disclosure” back in April 2014. Since the release how has life been for the band?

Well we released our sophomore EP April 2014 – we did a lot of extensive touring for “Disclosure”. The first day the record came out we were already on the road, and we didn’t stop  touring until November 2015. It was great to hit so many states and meet so many great people.

2 – You have had a crazy year, You have played pretty big US. festivals, If you had to choose, Which gig would you say has been the best up to now?
Festivals are always really awesome for us. Because we have such a high energy set, it’s easy for people just passing by to get hooked quickly on our show. I think we can all agree our favorite show so far was Rock Fest 2015 in Cadott, WI. Shinedown, Avenged Sevenfold, & Judas Priest all played that festival, and it was just massive. We had a 4 hour set and people were going crazy the entire time. It was such an amazing experience that we felt high off of that one show for months afterwards. I will never forget that night, ever.
3 – We have done a few sets of these “10 Questions” since starting off in October. Something that comes up a lot with a few different bands and artists is “Coldcock Whiskey” . It seems City of the Weak have a good relationship with it as well, Especially winning the Battle of the Bands this year! What was that like for you’s, was it fierce competition?
Coldcock has built such an amazing brand, product, and community in the music industry. We literally have nothing but great things to say about everybody at the company. The Coldcock Battle was very fierce – the stakes were very high, and if we were going to go down, we were going to go down with a massive fight. When Adam & Rick (from Coldcock) called me and said that we had won, I just broke down crying. I couldn’t believe it. I had to hand the phone over to Cody to finish the conversation because I couldn’t compose myself. We spent our entire spring and summer strategizing, working, and sharing Coldcock with all of our friends and fans. I absolutely love getting messages from people around the country wanting more Coldcock when we come through. It really is that tasty!!! People can’t get enough!
4 – “The Blame Game” it seems its had a huge response! Is the response you’s all kind of expected??
When you release a music video or a new song, you never really know what to expect. We went really big with this one by renting out the famous Foshay Tower in downtown Minneapolis. We wanted it to be something that people would talk about, and they definitely did!
5 – As you band that has achieved so much in a small amount of time, you’s obviously rehearse, Is there any set routine when in comes to practice?
Every rehearsal we come in with a game plan, and we execute it. We will go as late as we need to to make sure our work gets done.
6 – 2014 , City of the Weak played over 110 shows through out the US, this year again 2015, heaps of festivals!, When playing shows do you guys rock out any covers!?
Sometimes- a few covers we have played recently are: “Barracuda” by Heart, “Call Me” by Blondie, & “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin.
7 – Stef, You are the front woman of City of the Weak, You prove that when it comes to rock music, Woman can make it just as, or better than, your average all male band. Have you ever had any negative comments being in the position?
No matter who you are or what you do, there will be people criticizing you. Always. In the entertainment world it becomes more prevalent because people view you as a figure instead of a human being with feelings and emotions. But honestly, who the fuck cares what people have to say about you? As long as they are talking about me, I really don’t care what they’re saying.
8 – When it comes to writing new material, how do you challenge it? How do you’s do it?
It’s all about saying what you wanna say. That’s about it. You haven’t really written a good song until your point gets across very clearly.
9 – At MusUk, We are fans of City of the Weak. We actually came across Stef when checking out The Butcher Babies. What other bands or artists have influenced City of the Weak?
We all are influenced by many different artists. Influences range from D.R.U.G.S. to The Used to Pantera to Finch, and many more!
10 – Again, Thank you for doing this with us! There are so many questions I wanted to ask you’s as a band and also individually! Hopefully we are kicking off a new set of interviews with bigger and better questions and we hope you can feature on it in the near future! Is there anything, anything at all you want to tell us at MusUk and all of your fans!

Thanks for all the support and we hope to see you all on the road soon! ❤ Stef
